Anthony G. "Tony" Pucell, MD

ANTHONY G. "TONY" PUCELL, MD age 82, beloved husband for 58 years of Maureen (nee Flanagan); loving father of Tony (wife Christina), Mary Ann Petek (husband Doug), Emily Czarnota (husband Benjamin) and Karen Dittman (husband Ryan); devoted grandfather of Maddie Pucell, Grace Petek, Freddie and Lizzie Czarnota, Norah, Harper, Caleb and Anna Dittman; cherished son of the late Anthony M. and Mary A. (nee Globokar); dearest brother of the late Mary Kobrick (husband George, deceased), the late Elaine Smoleny (husband George, deceased), the late Margie Perko (husband Joseph, deceased). Dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many. 

Tony was born in Cleveland on November 5, 1943. He graduated from Benedictine High School in 1961, earned his undergraduate degree from John Carroll University and went on to complete his medical degree at St. Louis University. He then practiced as a pediatrician for many years. 

He was a proud Slovenian and enjoyed telling stories of his youth in "the old neighborhood." He was the first member of his family to attend college, and his family was very proud of their Tony-Boy. He met and fell in love with his wife on a blind date on September 16, 1964. He passed away on September 16, 2026; exactly 62 years later. What a beautiful life they had together.

Following his retirement, Tony spent 20 years engaged in tinkering, carpentry, fixing anything around the house that needed it, and small engine repair. A man of many talents and exceptional intelligence, he was an avid reader and a life-long learner. Just weeks prior to his death, he was brushing up on his calculus skills. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and listening to an eclectic selection of music across decades and genres. You should hear his nine mixed CD collection that he carefully curated over the years.

Warm, personable and gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, Tony loved making people laugh, and he also loved to laugh himself. It was sometimes hard to get him to leave the house, but whenever he did, he was the life of the party. Nearly anyone who met him walked away with a memorable story or chuckle. Excitable and passionate about many things, he also loved sharing those things with others and often had a new song, video or food he wanted you to try. He was a dedicated servant to others, using his talents and intelligence to help others. He was deeply devoted to his family, holding a special place in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. They will all miss their "goofy grandpa" and are thankful for the many memories he created with them. He was dedicated to his faith and will be dearly missed. We are thankful we have hope for an eternal life together with our heavenly Father and Savior.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Tony to the charity of your choice. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, September 21, 2026 at St. Clare Catholic Church 5659 Mayfield Rd., Lyndhurst, OH 44124 at 10 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Private burial at Mentor Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Tony at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1-5 PM.
