Bernard C. Novotney Sr.

BERNARD "BERNIE" CHARLES NOVOTNEY SR. age 81, was born on December 2, 1944, and was called by the heavenly Father on May 29, 2026, after a courageous fight with cancer. He was surrounded with love, near and far, by family, friends, and all those he touched through his genuine Spirit. Survived by his beloved wife Darlene of 56 years, daughter Christine (Bill) Hodnik, son Bernard C. Novotney Jr. (Margaret "Kathy", deceased), and grandchildren Julia, Joshua, Victoria, and Andrew. 

Bernie was a Sergeant in communications for the United States Air Force while stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam. He worked as a railroad engineer for 42 years, often reuniting with fellow retirees for breakfasts scheduled in Geneva, as well as luncheons enjoyed in Willoughby Hills. An avid league golfer, he enjoyed those times spent with friends, and as a passionate Steelers fan, touting his Steelers golf bag and gear. He was a devoted parishioner of Ss. Robert and William Parish, often volunteering during the church annual summer festivals. He was a genuine man, making friends and smiles wherever life took him. He will most certainly be missed by many. 

Bernie will join his parents, John and Kathrine Novotney, sister Dolores Sofranko, and brother Donald Novotney, Sr. in eternal peace. 

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Ss. Robert and William Catholic Church, 367 E 260th St., Euclid, OH 44132, at 10 AM. 

Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. 

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bernie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 4-8 PM.
