CHARLES J. HERBST. age 61, passed away on July 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband for 16 years of Angela (nee Koncar); loving step-father of Melissa Koncar (Tyler Trost); treasured son of Charles J. and the late Francine (nee Laural) Herbst; dearest brother of John (Laura), and Carolyn Hercik; cherished brother-in-law of John Koncar (Claudio), Rosemarie Krivacic (Jeffrey), and the late Frank Koncar (Wendy), and Thomas Koncar (Kim Miller); dear uncle and great-uncle of many; survived by his canine companion Aspen; preceded in death by his canine companions Ginger, Hazel, and Willow.
Charles was born on October 3, 1964, in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Euclid High School in 1983 then went on to attend Kent State University. He met the love of his life, Angela, 26 years ago and they have been married for 16 years.
He was a cherished owner and operator of a title company and a butcher shop before he became a bus driver for Laketran. In his free time, he enjoyed many hobbies including building Legos, collecting music and sports memorabilia, working in his hot pepper garden, hiking, going to music concerts and being part of the Cleveland music scene; listening to rock and roll music.
Charles was a passionate Cleveland sports fan and enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns and Cavs games. He also enjoyed watching hockey, NASCAR, participating in 5k's, and used to love riding his motorcycle with Angie and dear friends.
In his younger years he enjoyed being a role model for young adults by coaching little league baseball and football.
His family and pets were the light of his life. He will be remembered for his loyal, loving, friendly, and giving personality. His bright smiles, warm hugs, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at St. Bede Catholic Church 9114 Lakeshore Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060 at 11 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Charles at DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) MONDAY AUGUST 10, 4-8PM.
