He covered the Ohio state house and local affairs responsible for state level and local officials. Then promoted to Director of External Affairs managing all areas of Cleveland and Toledo for the First Energy Corp. His leadership led him to represent the company in many capacities and he was always involved and very generous with his time in community and volunteering: Zoning and Appeals Board, Auburn, Ohio; Board of Directors-Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center (2007-2019); V.P. and Trustee of the Three Corner Round Pack Outfit (1983-2026) United Way Geauga County BOD; Notre Dame Cathedral Latin High School BOD and Chairman; President of Parma/Seven Hills Chamber; Western Lake County Chamber BOD; Municipal League of Greater Cleveland BOD; CYO President at St. Rita, Solon, Ohio; Little League Coach in Waterville and Twinsburg.
Doug was extremely generous and giving, and even after his passing he continues to give to others through organ donation.
Doug met Cathy in history class, and their relationship began as friends before they began dating and exchanged their vows in 1980. He lived as a caring partner and devoted father, always making time to watch sports or dance. He loved his children and their families and would do anything for them.
He enjoyed history, travelling, golf, and supporting the Cleveland Sports Teams as a die-hard fan. Doug loved HHI beach, where he would spend weeks each year with Cathy. He had a passion for the Sierra Mountains, where he had spent 10 summers climbing some of the highest peaks, including Mt. Whitney and Mt. Tyndall with Three Corner Round. His friends were plenty and he was grateful for them all. He treasured his friendships even today, from the Fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi.
