JAMES E. "DOC" SABATOS, age 82, beloved husband for 43 years of Kathleen "Kit" (nee Nightingale); cherished son of the late John and Elizabeth (née Churnak) Sabatos and son-in-law of the late Willliam and Margaret Nightingale; dearest brother of Ronald Sabatos (wife Mary); father of Lisa, Mark, and Jeanette, grandfather of Joey and Abby and godfather of Marc Sirna; dear brother-in-law and uncle of many, including Steve (wife Melissa), and Mike (wife Rochelle).

James, fondly known to family and friends as Doc, was born on December 23, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he later graduated from Mayfield High School. He was a proud Army Combat Medic and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. During his time in the military, he was awarded the CMB, Purple Heart, Air Medal, and the Bronze Star. Doc stayed involved with those who served and was a member of many organizations like the VFW, American Legion, Purple Heart, DAV, and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Doc worked as a tool grinder for Cleveland Twist Drill, and later a courier for Ameri Path before earning his retirement.

He enjoyed Harleys and riding his motorcycle for a cause, which is why he co-founded the original Doc's Deepwood Run.

Time spent riding his motorcycle, being with Kit and Molly, their cat, and the other fur-babies over the years was time best spent.

His laugh was contagious, and his hugs were warm. Doc passed away on August 30, 2026, leaving his family missing his funny and quick-witted personality. He had a way of bringing people together, and for that he will be deeply missed by all that has the pleasure of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Doc to the Lake Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to Doc at DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4-8 PM.

Celebration of Life Service will follow on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 3PM at The Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date..
