JANETTE L. SCHMIEL (neé Altznauer) age 78, beloved wife of the late Ronald for 37 years; loving mother of Gregory (wife Jennifer) and Valerie Street (husband Reid); devoted grandmother of Ruth, Riley, Leah, Ben, and Madeline; cherished daughter of the late Fred and Ruth (neé Streidl) Altznauer; dearest sister of Carolyn Jedlicka (husband Earl); dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
Janette was born on November 4, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up in Seven Hills, she attended and graduated from Parma High School. Once Jan met Ron, the two became one and raised their family in Richfield. She enjoyed her second home in Galveston, Texas before ending with residency in Mayfield Heights. Jan was a devout Catholic and actively volunteered in the church. Whether she was attending St. Victor in Richfield, St. Patrick in Galveston, or St. Francis of Assisi in Gates Mills, Jan helped with Meals on Wheels and distributed communion to those at home. She worked hard for others, but it was caring for her grandchildren that gave her the most fulfillment. She was outgoing and full of life, which made spending time with grandma fun. There is no doubt that Jan's passing on August 24, 2026, leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but there is comfort in knowing her vibrant memory will live on through those she loved most.
