Richard Donald Grejtak

RICHARD DONALD GREJTAK age 82, passed away on June 27, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Bernadette (neé Scimeca) for 59 years; loving father of Michael Grejtak (wife Charlotte) and Kathleen Cantanzriti (husband Rich); devoted grandfather of Anna, Claire and Charlie, cherished son of the late William and Mary (neé Nemec); dearest brother of Diana Sultan (husband Matthew, deceased).

Richard was born on May 16, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon graduating from St. Ignatius High School, he continued his education at John Carroll University for his undergraduate degree, before earning his Master of Arts in Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He dedicated 47 years teaching the students of Gilmour Academy and St. Ignatius, the languages of English, Latin, and Greek. Richard and Bernadette exchanged their vows on June 10, 1967, and the two raised their children in South Euclid. A man built on logic, Richard saw the world through a clear lens. He was a devoted Catholic, always making sure to walk by faith. When attending Mass became difficult, he made sure to watch Mass on TV weekly. He lived his life simply but with purpose, often including a book or crossword puzzle in hand. Richard showed his ongoing devotion to his wife as he cared for her the past several years due to her continuing struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. To those who knew him best, Richard was a kind, intelligent man with a quick wit and a generous heart. The lessons he taught will leave an everlasting legacy to those who held him dear.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, July 3, 2026, at Our Lady Chapel at Gilmour Academy, 2045 SOM Center Road, Gates Mills, OH 44040, at 10:30 AM.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Richard at DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4-8 PM.
