Being born on the Feast of the Annunciation, Alice always had a special devotion to Our Blessed Mother. She and her brother, children of Alan and Minnie (Dieckow) Slowey, grew up in the family home with a vacant lot behind their large backyard. The trees and green grass provided space to run, play and hold family gatherings and picnics. Alice attended Christ the King Elementary School and was accepted at Notre Dame Academy as a freshman in September 1947. She gained experience working as a nurse's aide and was sure her vocation was to the nursing profession. As a senior, she realized God's call to religious life. Her parents would not give their consent, but Alice persisted and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in September 1951. At investment, she received the name Sister Mary Immaculae.

Sister Mary Alice received a bachelor's degree from St. John College in Cleveland and a master's degree in education from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ministry in elementary education became a passion. After several years as a classroom teacher, Sister was asked to assume the role of elementary school principal. For the next thirty years, Sister served in administration at parish schools in Warren, Massillon, Mentor and Amherst; and at St. Paschal Baylon in Highland Heights and St. Francis in Cleveland. Sister was mission-driven, kind and organized. She recognized and provided for students who needed extra help and had a heart for teachers. In her last school setting ministry Sister Mary Alice served as receptionist, secretary and administrative assistant at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School in Chardon. Sister was respected for her gentle spirit and deep wisdom born of years of administrative experience. She was a support because she understood the joys and challenges of school leadership.

In retirement, Sister served in mission advancement, mission effectiveness and finance at the SND Center. Sisters and those with whom she ministered recognized her as a caring and giving woman always ready to assist wherever needed, wherever her skills could be used most effectively. Sister Mary Alice's prayer each day reflected her lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother and her deep love for the God who called her so many years ago. May she rest in peace.
