THOMAS MILAN PLUT age 72, beloved husband for 49 years of Mary Beth (nee Arko); loving father of Thomas (wife Julie), Emily Laeng (husband Adam), Aaron (wife Elizabeth); devoted “Pa” of 8 grandchildren: Owen, Olivia, and Jack Plut, Jake, Sydney, and Nathan Laeng, Addison and Nora Plut; beloved son of the late Milan and Mary Plut; beloved son-in-law of Virginia Arko and the late Anthony; dearest brother-in-law of Susan Stricker (husband Jim), Thomas Arko (wife Marina), Robert Arko (wife Aura), David Arko (wife Cindy), Dennis Arko (wife Anne), and Karyn Markel (husband Carl); Uncle and dear friend to many; founding member of MAPS (Markel, Arko Plut, and Stricker Outdoor Adventurers); parishioner of St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church; special friend of Pearl the Cockatiel.
Thomas was born in Euclid Ohio on October 22, 1953, the son of a police officer and homemaker. A product of Euclid Schools, he graduated from Euclid High School in 1971 and then matriculated to Kent State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Shortly after, he was sworn in as police officer of the Euclid Police Department where he met his beloved Mary Beth and served with integrity for 33 years, retiring as sergeant in 2010. Tom enjoyed life, the easily obtainable way: He enjoyed meticulously caring for his automobiles, and he cultivated a passion for listening to vinyl records, FM radio, and watching old movies. He was a veritable encyclopedia of Americana. Above all, he enjoyed his immediate and extended family. Ever personable, whether as “Uncle Tom” or as “Pa,” his gifts helped all to have fun at family social gatherings. He was supremely proud of his three children and treasured their gifts of grandchildren.
The Plut family is grateful to Dr. David Bajor and his team along with all the staff at UH Seidman Cancer Center at UH St. John Medical Center, Westlake, Ohio.
